Founded by music legend Celia Cruz, the Celia Cruz Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for underprivileged students wishing to study music, while also supporting the fight against cancer and keeping the Celia Cruz legacy alive. During her 50-year career in the music industry, Celia Cruz was a tireless supporter of educational, cultural and health issues in the Hispanic community.


The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History explores the life of legendary Cuban-born singer Celia Cruz (1925 – 2003) and her impressive career with “¡Azúcar! The Life and Music of Celia Cruz,” “¡Azúcar!” highlights important moments in Cruz’ life and career through photographs, personal documents, costumes, rare footage, music videos and music. The show begins with her childhood and early appearances with the band, “La Sonora Matancera,” in Cuba. Among the dozen featured costumes is a dress from a 1950s performance in Cuba and the dress she wore at her last public appearance, designed by Narciso Rodríguez. The exhibition title, “¡Azúcar!
